The Azores completely exceeded my expectations! Standing at the rim of Sete Cidades crater, looking down at those twin lakes, was absolutely surreal. Pico Island's wine region is so unique - tasting Verdelho in those UNESCO-listed vineyards was a highlight of my trip to Europe.
Gerês National Park was a hidden gem I had never heard of before this trip. The waterfalls, the wild Garrano horses, and those thermal baths were magical. Monsanto village felt like stepping back in time - so peaceful and authentic.
The whale watching from Pico Island was incredible - we saw three sperm whales up close! The volcanic landscapes here are like nothing I've seen before. This route perfectly combines history, nature, and authentic Portuguese culture. Our guide was fantastic!
I've been to Portugal's Algarve and Lisbon before, but this route showed me a completely different side of the country. The Gerês hot springs were so relaxing after hiking, and the food throughout was outstanding - especially that traditional cozido stew in Monsanto.
From the medieval streets of Monsanto to the volcanic craters of the Azores, this was an unforgettable journey. The lava tube caves on Pico were fascinating, and swimming in the natural pools at Caldeira Velha was the perfect way to end the day. Highly recommend!
As a Portuguese person, I'm proud to see the Azores getting recognition! Sete Cidades at sunrise when the mist lifts is pure magic. The azaleas in bloom make the crater even more beautiful. This is Portugal's best-kept secret and it deserves to be discovered!
Swimming with dolphins in the Atlantic was the highlight! Our boat captain knew exactly where to find them. The hot springs at Furnas where they cook the cozido underground using volcanic steam - what a unique experience! The Azores are like a different planet compared to mainland Portugal.
The tea plantations at Gorreana are so unique in Europe! Walking through those emerald green fields with the ocean as a backdrop was beautiful. The Pico winery tour with volcanic wine tasting was fascinating - learning how they grow grapes in volcanic rock soil.
The geothermal experience in Furnas was incredible! Watching them pull the traditional stew out of the ground after it cooks for hours in volcanic steam - and then eating it with本地菠萝! The crater lakes of Sete Cidades were like something from a dream, completely unreal.
Monsanto's giant boulders leaning against the houses are like nowhere else I've ever been! Exploring those narrow lanes where rocks form the walls and roofs is surreal. The alheira de Monsanto I had for lunch was delicious - such rich, traditional Portuguese food.
Gerês National Park is a nature lover's paradise! The Cascata do Arado waterfall hike was spectacular, and spotting the native ponies in the wild was magical. The way the mist moves through the valleys creates such an ethereal atmosphere. Portugal's only national park is a treasure.
The Atlantic←natural pools of São Miguel were so refreshing after hiking! The bluer water contrasted with the dark volcanic rocks made for amazing photos. Watching the sunset from Ponta da Madrugada was romantic - the colors reflected off the water was breathtaking.
