Best Time to Visit
June to October is the dry season, ideal for wildlife viewing. January to March is also good. Avoid April and May which are the rainy months.
Getting Around
Use licensed taxis or ride-hailing apps like Uber. For safari trips, arrange transportation through your hotel or tour operator. The city has a matatu (minibus) system but can be crowded.
Local Cuisine
Try nyama choma (grilled meat), ugali (cornmeal porridge), and sukuma wiki (collard greens). Don't miss Kenyan coffee and tea.
Cultural Tips
When visiting Maasai villages, ask permission before taking photos. Dress modestly when visiting rural areas. Learn basic Swahili phrases like "jambo" (hello) and "asante" (thank you).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Not booking safari tours in advance
Popular safari operators book up quickly, especially during peak season. Reserve your tours at least 2-3 months ahead.
Wearing inappropriate clothing
Wear neutral colors for safaris (khaki, beige, olive). Avoid bright colors which can scare wildlife. Pack sunscreen and a hat.
Ignoring safety guidelines
Always follow your guide's instructions during game drives. Never leave the vehicle unless accompanied by your guide.
Not carrying cash
Many small shops and markets don't accept credit cards. Carry Kenyan shillings for local purchases.
