Practical Information
Best Time to Visit
October to April offers the most pleasant weather with temperatures between 18-28°C (64-82°F). Avoid summer (June-August) when temperatures can exceed 40°C (104°F).
Getting Around
Use licensed taxis or ride-hailing apps like Uber for most trips. Metro is useful for longer distances. Consider hiring a private driver for day trips to Saqqara and Dahshur.
Local Cuisine
Try koshari (rice, lentils, and pasta), ful medames (fava beans), and taameya (Egyptian falafel). Don't miss traditional desserts like basbousa and kunafa.
Cultural Tips
Dress modestly, especially when visiting religious sites. Women should cover shoulders and knees. Learn basic Arabic phrases like "salam" (hello) and "shukran" (thank you).
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Not booking pyramid entry tickets in advance
Entry to the Great Pyramid's interior is limited. Book online at least 2-3 weeks ahead to avoid disappointment.
Believing street vendors' "special access" offers
Stick to official ticket booths. Many vendors claim they can get you in cheaper or faster, but these are often scams.
Ignoring sun protection
The desert sun is intense. Wear sunscreen, a hat, and stay hydrated throughout your visit.
Not bargaining in markets
Bargaining is expected in Khan el-Khalili and other markets. Start at about half the asking price and work your way up.
