Transportation

Brighton is very walkable. The bus network is good. Cycling is popular - hire a bike to explore like a local.

Beach Tips

Brighton's beach is pebbled, not sandy. Bring flip-flops or water shoes for comfort. The sea is cold - even in summer!

What to Pack

Local Etiquette

Brighton is incredibly liberal and welcoming to everyone. Be yourself! Don't be surprised by the colorful characters - they're part of Brighton's charm.

Brighton Pier brought back so many childhood memories! The arcade games, the donkey rides, the candy floss - it's everything I love about traditional British seaside holidays. The fish and chips from the Rock Restaurant while sitting on the pebbles watching the sunset was perfect.

The Royal Pavilion is absolutely breathtaking - the interior is like nothing I've ever seen. The Indo-Saracenic design with all that gold leaf and elaborate decoration - it's opulent beyond belief. The gardens were beautiful in spring too. Brighton exceeded my expectations.

The Lanes are amazing for vintage shopping - I spent three hours hunting through racks and found some incredible pieces. The backstreets off Trafalgar Street are goldmines for vintage clothing. The street art in North Laine is also fantastic - great photo opportunities everywhere.

Brighton's inclusivity was so refreshing. As a queer traveler, I felt completely safe and welcome everywhere. The LGBTQ+ scene is vibrant but not overwhelming. The nightlife was incredible - we went to a drag show at Revenge and it was absolutely hilarious. Brighton's energy is unmatched!

I tried paddleboarding for the first time in Brighton and loved it! The water sports schools along the seafront are excellent - very patient instructors. Even though I fell in a bunch of times, the instructors made it fun. The sea was freezing but the experience was worth it!
