Where the Titanic was built, Game of Thrones was filmed, and Irish warmth shines through.
Hi, I'm Caoimhe. Born and raised in Belfast, I've seen this city transform into something truly special. This guide was last updated in May 2026.
Belfast Accent Note: The Belfast accent is distinctly Irish - we say "you" as "yaw," "yes" as "yez," and "I'm" as "Ah'm." We call everyone "pet" and say "top of the morning to ye" (though that's more Irish than specifically Belfast!). Belfast is incredibly warm and welcoming - expect plenty of craic (fun) and friendly conversation.

Farewell to Belfast
Belfast City Airport (BHD) and Belfast International Airport (BFS) both have good connections. Ferries from Britain run to Belfast port. Dublin is 2 hours away by bus.
Belfast is compact and walkable. The black taxi tours are excellent for understanding the political murals. Car rental is recommended for day trips.
Northern Ireland uses the British Pound (GBP). Some shops near the border may accept Euros.
Belfast is much cheaper than Dublin or London. Many attractions are reasonably priced, and pub meals are excellent value.
Layers for unpredictable weather, comfortable walking shoes, and rain gear. Irish weather is famously changeable!
Belfast people are incredibly warm and welcoming. Say "top of the morning" and "how are ye getting on?" as greetings. Don't discuss politics unless invited!

Titanic Belfast was absolutely phenomenal - I'm a massive Titanic fan and this museum exceeded all expectations. Walking on the actual slipways where the Titanic was launched gave me chills. The SS Nomadic next door was a perfect addition. Belfast should be so proud of this attraction!
London, UK | March 2026
The black taxi tour was the most important thing I did in Belfast. Our driver was a local who lived through The Troubles, and his perspective was invaluable. The murals are so powerful - I felt like I understood Belfast's history in a way I never could from a textbook.
New York, NY | February 2026
The Giant's Causeway is one of the most incredible places I've ever visited. Those hexagonal basalt columns are like something from another planet. The coastal drive was stunning, and the story of Finn MacCool (the giant who built it according to legend) made it even more magical.
San Francisco, CA | January 2026
Castle Ward (Winterfell) was amazing! Dressing up in the costumes and walking through the actual sets from Game of Thrones was a dream come true. As a huge fan, being able to take photos in the actual location where they filmed was incredible. Northern Ireland is so beautiful too!
Manchester, UK | December 2025
The Crown Liquor pub was incredible - the interior is like stepping into a Victorian time capsule. The ornate tiles, the carved wood, the gas lighting - it's the most beautiful pub I've ever been in. The Guinness was perfect too. Belfast knows how to do pubs right!
Edinburgh, UK | November 2025
St. George's Market was such a lively experience - so much energy and great local food. I bought beautiful handmade jewelry and the best soda bread I've ever tasted. Belfast Castle had incredible views over the city. I couldn't believe how friendly everyone was - I felt so welcome the whole time!
