Andorra has no airport. Fly into Toulouse (France) or Barcelona (Spain), then take a bus or rent a car for the scenic 3-4 hour mountain drive. Bus services operate daily from major cities in both countries.
Winter (December-March) is ideal for skiing at Grandvalira. Summer (June-September) offers excellent hiking and mountain biking. Shoulder seasons (April-May, October-November) provide fewer crowds and good value.
Andorra is not in the Schengen Area but allows entry with Schengen visas. EU citizens can enter with just an ID. US, Canadian, and UK citizens need valid passports. Allow extra time for border crossings.
Andorra uses the Euro. The country is famous for duty-free shoppingelectronics, perfumes, tobacco, and alcohol are significantly cheaper than in neighboring countries. Quality is excellent.
Purchase Grandvalira ski passes in advance for the best rates. Equipment rental shops are plentiful in resort areas. Lessons in English are readily available for beginners.
Catalan is the official language, though Spanish and French are widely spoken. Locals are friendly and helpful. Tipping is not expected but appreciated for good service.

The duty-free shopping in Andorra la Vella is no joke. I picked up a bottle of Lagavulin for €35 that costs $85 back home. Hiked the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley on day two and barely saw another soul. The trails are well-marked but bring solid boots, the scree gets slippery.

Grandvalira ski resort blew my mind for the price. A full day pass was €47 compared to Aspen's $200+. The slopes are groomed perfectly and the mountain cafes serve this killer escudella stew. Apres-ski at Llac de Pessons was legit. Only gripe: the rental shop opened 30 minutes late.

Caldea thermal spa was worth every euro. Floating in 32-degree sulfur water while snow fell outside was surreal. The Inúu adults-only section is pricier but totally worth it for the silence. Book the 8pm slot, fewer families and the LED light show on the lagoon is gorgeous.

Casa de la Vall is cool but honestly, the real win was just walking around Andorra la Vella's old quarter. Found this tiny cafe near Placa del Poble doing trinxat for €8. It's basically cabbage and potato hash but hits different after a mountain hike. Country's tiny, you can see most of it in three days.

Skiing at Vallnord-Pal Arinsal was solid for beginners. My instructor Marco spoke four languages and was hilarious. The Arinsal village has these great rustic bars where locals mix with tourists. Just know that everything shuts down by 10pm, it's not a party town.

Did the Coma Pedrosa hike in June, still patches of snow at the top. Views into both France and Spain from the summit are wild. Stayed at a mountain refuge run by this elderly couple who made us rabbit stew. Zero cell service for 8 hours, honestly kind of freeing.

The Naturlandia toboggan run is stupid fun. You control the speed down a 5km mountain track. My kids loved it and it was €15 each. Also grabbed perfume at Julia that's 40% cheaper than US retail. Andorra's weird but I love it, this little tax-free bubble in the Pyrenees.
